The Masters programme in Applied Linguistics: Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) at York St John University gives you the opportunity to reflect on the similarities between your experience of learning and/or teaching English and the work of other applied linguists, including: translators and interpreters, speech and language therapists, dictionary writers, literacy teachers, language planners and forensic linguists.
The MA Applied Linguistics: Translation programme will enable you to improve your promotion prospects by studying theories of translation and language learning, developing project management and IT skills, learning about the changing uses of English around the world, reflecting on connections with other language professionals, and generating new knowledge through learning how to conduct your own research.
The MSc Clinical Linguistics programme is designed for those who have previously studied Language and Linguistics at undergraduate level and who wish to develop their study of this area of linguistics to Master’s level.
The MA Language & Linguistics programme is designed for those who have previously studied Language and Linguistics at undergraduate level and who wish to develop their study of the subject to Masters level, but without the applied/professional focus offered by other programmes in the Taught Postgraduate Linguistics suite (TESOL, Clinical Linguistics, Translation, Japanese Language Teaching).
This innovative Master’s programme is designed for those interested in teaching Japanese to speakers of other languages and in deepening their knowledge of applied linguistics. You will explore the latest theories of language teaching and learning, and critically evaluate them in the context of Japanese as a foreign language.
The DAppLing programme is designed for people in a range of professional contexts that have a focus on language and communication, and allows candidates to investigate specific areas related to their own practice or relevant to the profession more generally.
