Opportunity and Excellence Scheme
We want to give more people a fair chance to access Higher Education.
York St John University was founded on the belief that helping more people from a wide mix of backgrounds to access education contributes positively to individuals and society.
To support this we introduced a unique contextual offer scheme. Our scheme, described as radical by the Office for students, takes factors other than your grades into account when we offer a place on one of our courses.

Mature entry offer scheme
We have an outstanding record of supporting mature students in their academic success. We recognise the importance of life experience and work experience in formal learning. Our mature students add invaluable diversity, strength and richness to our community.
We believe that nothing should hold people back from pursuing education. That is why we have developed a mature student entry scheme that recognises non-traditional entry qualifications and experience.
We are looking for people who have a passion for learning and a real determination to succeed on one of our programmes.
The Aspire Card is a bursary that helps students directly with study costs and supports their transition into Higher Education. All eligible full-time students will receive £100 on their Aspire Cards and part-time students will receive £50. Home students whose household income is below £25,000 will also receive an additional £400.
