Biomedical Science BSc (Hons)

UCAS course code: 7Y63   Duration: 3 years full-time | 5 years part-time

Biomedical Science is a fascinating and exciting subject that studies human biology in both healthy individuals and disease states. You will gain detailed knowledge and understanding of molecular, cellular and pathological changes in common human conditions. Our students are able to gain confidence and demonstrate competency in laboratory techniques and apply their knowledge to real life situations. Key to this is our frequent and applied supported learning opportunities to develop theoretical, analytical and practical skills.

Biomedical Science (with placement) BSc (Hons)

This 4 year programme allows you the opportunity to undertake a placement year in an NHS/industry laboratory, before returning to your final year. You will study detailed biological process in healthy/disease states and gain a clear understanding of associated molecular, cellular and tissue changes. Through frequent and applied laboratory sessions, you will enhance your theoretical, analytical and practical skills that will be consolidated during your placement year, enhancing your employability.

Occupational Therapy BSc (Hons)

As an Occupational Therapist, you will recognise the strong relationship between occupation, health and wellbeing. The aim of our Occupational Therapy degree course is to enable you to help people engage in occupations which they need or want to do, and suppoprt them to lead personally fulfilling and healthy lives.

Physiotherapy BHSc (Hons)

On the Physiotherapy BHSc (Hons) course at York St John University, you will learn from a dynamic team of health professionals with a diverse range of expertise and interests. Our students have a host of different past experiences which they are encouraged to reflect upon as part of their learning. You will complete a number of practice placements throughout the programme, allowing you to work with patients in real settings under the close supervision of qualified clinicians.

Nutrition BSc (Hons)*

Nutrition represents one of the most significant challenges for science and human society. In many industrialised countries and fast-growing economies, obesity and its consequences are major challenges to health, whilst at the same time, anorexia is a major theme in mental illness and UNICEF estimates that undernutrition contributes to half of the deaths reported in children less than 5 years of age. Understanding human nutrition is fundamental to addressing and solving these pressing issues.
