Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak advice for applicants
Because of the global coronavirus outbreak and the UK government’s decision to cancel A level exams we have made changes to our application process.
Updated Tuesday 24 March 2020
We have removed the academic requirements from most undergraduate courses starting in September 2020
If you are a UK applicant and have applied to us already you will not need to meet any academic requirements to receive an unconditional offer to study with us.
You may still need to meet other conditions such as DBS checks. Please check your original offer for information about these additional requirements. It should be possible to meet these conditions remotely over the next few months.
If you are applying for a course in the following area your application has not as yet been confirmed.
- Occupational Therapy
- Biomedical Science
The government has requested that universities do not make any further changes to offers for two weeks from Monday 23 March 2020. We will be listening to further government advice before deciding what further action to take.
If your offer has already been confirmed we will not be reversing that decision.
For non-UK applicants we will review your application on a case-by-case basis.
I want to assure applicants and their parents and supporters that we are doing everything possible to help. We have decided to take this decisive action immediately so that you can have stability and certainty during this uncertain time.
Replying to offers
There is no need for applicants to feel under pressure to reply quickly to their offers. UCAS have moved the deadline for applicant replies to 19 May. They will be in contact with applicants to confirm this and to provide updates on a regular basis.
For those applicants who now have confirmed offers that show as unconditional status on UCAS, you will be able to choose our offer as a firm (first) choice or an insurance (second) choice, or decline the offer completely. You do not need to put us down as your firm choice before conditions are removed.
York St John University will not seek to pressure you into accepting our offer. All first year undergraduates are guaranteed accommodation for their first year with us whenever they reply.
Please take your time if you are undecided.
Once you have decided where you want to accept, you can make your decisions using your UCAS Track page.
We are here for you to ask questions and get information. Please get in touch using the following methods:
Email us at email@example.com
Use our Live Chat which is available on all of our web pages.
We want you to know that we will be 100% supportive of our applicants and that we’ll be as flexible as we can possibly be, to ensure that everyone who wants to come and join us this year can do. We pride ourselves on our sense of community at York St John and we count our applicants as already being a part of that.
This is a big body of work for us to get through so I would ask you to be as patient as possible over the new few days, while we go through applications and take appropriate action. I know that this is a big ask at such a stressful time!
Changes to our Decision Day on 1 April
Unfortunately, we have had to cancel our Decision day on Wednesday 1 April.
We know that this will be disappointing to the many people who had booked on and know that seeing the campus is an important part of your decision about where to study.
We are preparing virtual content that will bring the campus and our wonderful, vibrant community to you and we will let you know when this is ready to go.
Applying for accommodation and finance
You can still apply for accommodation here and nominate your favourite choices. We 100% guarantee all new undergraduate students university accommodation.
You do not have to have accepted your offer to do this and you can apply for accommodation if you we are your insurance choice.
We would also strongly advise you to apply for your student finance as soon as you are able to avoid any delays later in the year.
Stay safe and look after yourselves and those close to you. It will be great to see you at welcome week in September.
