Wellbeing and welfare support
Our Wellbeing and Welfare team are dedicated to supporting you with some of the challenges you may face during your time as a student. Our mental health practitioners and counsellors can help you with mental wellbeing and give you advice on any external services you may need.
Our welfare advisers can help you with practical issues impacting on your studies, like relationship difficulties or bullying.
We offer both face to face and virtual appointments. We know student life is not always easy so please come and find us if you need support.

Supporting our diverse students
Dignity and respect
Your wellbeing and safety are our priority. We expect our students to treat each other and staff with respect, online and offline. Discrimination of any kind will not be tolerated.
You can report any unwelcome behaviour from staff or students through our Report and Support website. You can also use this site to access support and additional information on a range of topics.
Study support
Academic support is available from a range of staff and services across the University. You can book a tutorial or workshop (in-person or online) with one of our specialist teams. Our Learning Success Hub also provides self-help resources to help you develop your study skills.
Library, study and digital skills
Disability support
Our Disability Support and Inclusion team can assist you with any disability related support needs. If you have declared a disability, we will be in touch with you about the services we offer. Remember, you can declare a disability with us at any time during your studies.
If you have health or disability related issues that may impact your learning we can create a Learner Adjustment Plan (LAP) based on your needs. Our practitioners will work with you to determine your needs and how we can support you.

Help with your finances
Our Student Funding Advice team provide advice and guidance on student finance as well as the funding available from York St John. The team run campaigns throughout the year to provide money saving tips. There are always prizes to be won so it's worth getting involved.

Careers, placements and student opportunities
As a York St John University student, you have access to a range of support from the Student Success and Employability team.
Whether you have a clear idea about your future career or not, your time at university is a great opportunity to engage with new experiences, build your confidence and develop the skills to reach your full potential.

Chaplaincy
Our Chaplain Reverend Jane Speck offers a confidential talking service, which is open to everyone. You are welcome to see the Chaplain about anything, no matter how big or small.
The Chaplaincy welcomes all people, of all faiths and beliefs. Our chapel has space for everyone and you will have access to:
- A Chapel
- A Muslim Prayer Room
- A Contemplation Room
- A Quiet Room with sensory toys
- A Peace Garden
- Faith Advisers from all major world faiths
If you do not have a religious faith but would like some quiet time you are welcome to use the spaces above, or to relax in the Chapel Kitchen.
You can visit the Chapel during the week. Our office is located next to the Peace Garden in CP007.

Programme Administration and Support Service (PASS)
We can help with course-related queries, including:
- Module choices
- Course changes or suspension of studies
- Timetable queries
- Assignment or exam extensions due to exceptional circumstances
- Reporting absences
- Assessment results
Most queries can be dealt with through email so please contact the relevant admin team which you can find on our web page. We also offer an online video chat service. You can stay up to date with opening times and find out more about our services on our dedicated pages.
Programme Administration and Support Service (PASS)
Onsite healthcare
Registering at a doctor's surgery while you are at university means you can get the help you need if you are not well. Our onsite surgery allows you to book appointments with doctors and nurses so you can get the help you need.
Register online before you arrive so that you can book an appointment when you need one.
Support for commuting students
Are you thinking about living at home and commuting to university? We have a range of services available to support you.
We have a designated contact for commuting students who can help you decide whether commuting is the right choice for you. We can meet with you to:
- Discuss practical issues
- Give money saving tips
- Provide information on car parking permits and useful facilities on campus
- Help you manage the impact commuting to university may have on your academic studies and personal wellbeing
If you are commuting for your studies, we also offer commuting student accommodation. These rooms can be booked for a limited number of nights, subject to availability. Read more on our dedicated page for commuting students.
