YSJActive: Active Opportunities - Fitness Classes

YSJActive offer an exciting and varied range of health and fitness classes suitable for all abilities. The Fitness Classes operate on a pay as you go basis and you do not need to sign up in advance (apart from Spinning, which is bookable online, please see below). However, please allow a few extra minutes before the start of the class to pay and sign in. Changing facilities and lockers are available. If you have any questions or would like advice on health and fitness, achieving a personal goal or challenge then please do not hesitate to get in touch.  Please see the sections below for up to date information on each class.

Zumba

Classes cost £2 each and you can just turn up on the day, there's no need to book.

Come and join us for a fun, Latin dance move inspired class that will give you a great aerobic workout and hopefully a laugh or two. You don't need to be a dancer and we aim to provide a relaxed, friendly environment. After one or two sessions you should start to feel confident with the routines and steps. At the end of the day, the important thing is to keep moving and enjoy yourself.

Pilates

Mats are provided.

Please note that this class is suitable for all abilities, no previous Pilates experience is required.

Pilates is a low-impact, mat based class, suitable for all body types.  It includes movements which stretch, strengthen and stabilise your body so that you can improve your posture and help to relieve the aches and pains of day to day life.  This class will include some challenges, particularly for your abdominal muscles, which play a vital role in maintaining a healthy alignment.  

Please pay and sign in at Foss Reception before the start of every class.  

Please note the following changes to Pilates:  At present the last scheduled class is 26 October (inclusive) due to our instructor leaving the University.  We are working hard to find a new instructor and hope that there is only a short break in Pilates class provision, we will communicate when classes will restart after any break as soon as possible.  We apologise for any disappointment or inconvenience caused. 

 

Staff Badminton

Come and join us for a fun, social game of badminton. It doesn't matter whether you're a pro or a beginner; the aim is to have fun and burn off a few calories.

Sessions are £2 per person and will take place on Tuesdays in Foss Sports Hall 5.00pm - 6.00pm.  

Please note there are no sessions on the following dates in 2018-19 due to facility availability

Yoga

Yoga will still be running over the summer whilst Vikki is away.  Classes will be covered by Lynda in July and September and by Meg in August. 

Please note:  as it is now colder you may wish to bring socks, a jumper and a blanket with you, so that you can stay nice and warm during the relaxation aspect of the class. 

Staff Football

All staff are welcome to come along and play football after a day at work on Mondays at 5.00pm - 6.00pm. Sessions are £2 per session and take place in the Foss Sports Hall.

Spinning

  • Wednesdays 18:10 – 18:50 instructed by Rachel Sullivan

All classes are for all abilities and are £3 per session. 

Class sign up and payment will be done via the online store. Registration only takes two minutes and sign up to classes is quick and simple; type spin in the search bar and available classes will show up. 

Class sign-ups can be done two weeks in advance. 

 

 

Circuits

An external class run by Mark Sullivan, Senior Lecturer in Sport. Circuits is a fast-paced training class that involves performing a number of different exercises in succession, with a focus on aerobic and strength conditioning.
