Staff profile image of Jasmine Childs-Fegredo

I am a chartered Counselling Psychologist registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), chartered and accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS), and a fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). As well as undertaking teaching and research in academia, I have experience working as a clinician in the NHS, most recently in Child and Young People's services, providing psychological interventions to children, young people, and their families.

I have been a university lecturer since 2018, teaching mainly on the doctorate in counselling psychology, and also on psychology masters and undergraduate programmes.

My areas of expertise are qualitative research methods and contemporary psychological therapies such as Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT). I am a humanistic practitioner and educator, with an interest in trauma-informed care.

Teaching

At York St John University, I teach extensively on a BPS & HCPC accredited doctoral programme in counselling psychology as well as undergraduate psychology.

My areas of teaching are in developing core clinical skills, qualitative research methods, and psychological therapies.

Research

I carried out a post-doc at the University of Cambridge, where my research focused on the early identification of mental health in primary schools, and the effects of mindfulness on academic performance. My current research projects include developing yoga-integrated psychotherapy for emotion dysregulation and the value of humanistic counselling in schools.

I am currently the early-career researcher representative on the Research Board at the British Psychological Society.
