Lakehead Thunder Bay campus was established in 1965 and is ranked number 1 in Canada for undergraduate research.

The campus is situated of the north shore of Lake Superior, the world's largest freshwater lake. The surrounding area has breathtaking nature and plenty of outdoor recreation.

The academic year is split into 2 semesters:

Accommodation

Accommodation abroad

You will usually stay in town house or apartment-style accommodation, with access to a full kitchen.

Costs are usually between CAD$3731 and CAD$3936 per semester.

If you study abroad for 1 semester, you are guaranteed University accommodation for the semester you are in York.

Additional costs

This information is about additional costs of studying at this host university. Please be aware that prices are subject to change, and the list may not be exhaustive.

We recommend looking at the host website, as well as entry requirements for the country, to get a full understanding of the costs involved.

A $20 Orientation fee will be automatically billed to your account to cover all costs related to attending Orientation and any additional 'free' events associated with Orientation.

A $600 deposit will be required prior to arrival, to secure on campus accommodation.

An ancillary fee of approximately $60 per course are due to be paid by the fees deadline of mid August (for Semester 1 abroad) or mid December (for Semester 2 abroad).

You must enrol with Lakehead's insurance whilst in Canada. The fees are approximately $200 per semester. More information can be found on the University Health Insurance Plan (UHIP) page.

Visas

You will need an ETA (Electronic travel authorisation) which is a digital document connected to your passport that allows you to be in Canada for under 6 months.

You can apply for it online and it costs around CAD$7.00.
