I am an Associate Professor for Music Production, and for York Business School.
My main teaching areas are recording, production, mastering, music business, entrepreneurship and innovation. Outside of York St John University, I run a professional mastering service, am a consultant and an author of many books on music production with Routledge publishers.
I served as the Finance Director for the Music Producers Guild for several years and am currently the co-chair of the Audio Engineering Society's UK Mastering Group. In addition to this I am a co-founder of the Innovation In Music international conference series and serve as a committee member on several other international conferences.
The modules I teach today cover topics that range from sound engineering and audio theory, through to critical listening, mixing and mastering, then through to social entrepreneurship, venture creation, enterprise and entrepreneurship and becoming and entrepreneurial practitioner.
My research can be viewed through a number of repositories including RaY (linked above). My work with Routledge as a series editor sees us release several volumes each year in the area of Perspectives on Music Production which includes business, theory, industrial interpretation and general innovation in music.
