When you join us you will be allocated an academic tutor on arrival, for academic support throughout your exchange.

Modules and credits

You can see a full list of modules or classes for Study Abroad and Exchange students in the module catalogues below. These catalogues are for the 2025-26 academic year, and are subject to change. An up to date catalogue will be sent to applicants each semester to choose classes from.

You must choose your modules from the catalogue above. More detailed information for each module can be found on our online catalogue. Please note that not all modules on the online catalogue are available for incoming Study Abroad and Exchange students.

Students have the flexibility to select modules from all schools which are available in the module catalogue emailed out to them, provided they meet the prerequisites and obtain prior approval from their home university.

  • A full time workload is 60 York St John University credits per semester
  • Most modules are worth 20 or 40 credits

60 York St John University credits per semester transfers to:

  • 15 US credits
  • 15 Canadian credits
  • 48 Australian credits
  • 16 Japanese credits
  • 15 Korean credits
  • 30 ECTS

Teaching and assessment

You will study alongside our full degree students and complete the same assessments. These are usually written assignments or examinations. 

An academic transcript of results will be sent to you or your home institution after your marks have been confirmed and externally verified.

English Language and Study skills support 

International students who may need free English language and study skills support should visit the Insessional support and language development section of our Student Hub.

Academic calendar

Our academic calendar is split into 2 semesters:

  • Semester 1 runs from September to January (or December if there is an overlap of semester dates with your home institution)
  • Semester 2 runs from January to May

We welcome students for semester 1, semester 2 or the full year. A full year exchange can only be undertaken in our Fall Semester (Semester 1) and is not available for our Spring (Semester 2) intake.
