Course overview

This course is your opportunity to achieve your ambitions and develop your skills in midwifery. As well as professional expertise, you'll gain personal growth and development, which will underpin the reflective and leadership qualities that will help you navigate the varied nature of contemporary maternity care.

As you immerse yourself in your studies, you'll gain a profound understanding of the physiological, psychological and social factors that can influence the health and care of service users within maternity services. Learning across the course will also explore and develop skills in multi-professional working, communication, active listening, decision making and leadership.

These are all essential for success as a member of the future midwifery workforce. Our course is externally accredited by the professional body, Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) meaning that on successful completion of the course you will be able to apply to the NMC to be a registered midwife.

50% of the course is in clinical placement, meaning you get to interact with the maternity workforce along with developing your clinical proficiencies and preparation for future employment. Clinical placements will be in blocks, giving you the opportunity to fully immerse yourself in the reality of midwifery practice. These blocks enable you to gain the balance of university life while not in placement. As well as working in professional settings, you'll learn in our state of the art purpose built facilities. These facilities give you a safe and realistic space to learn and practice essential midwifery skills.

You'll work in small class sizes of around 20 people. This means you'll gain a personalised learning experience where you are encouraged to build professional relationships with your fellow peers and lecturers.

Midwives can make tangible positive impacts on the lives of women, birthing people and their families. If you are ready to start your journey towards a rewarding career, full of challenges and opportunities then we are looking forward to hear from you.
