York St John University has been educating people in the heart of York for 180 years.

One of our founding aims was to increase the transformational reach of education so everyone could enjoy its benefits. In the same way, impactful research is now one of our cornerstones as a modern and ambitious university.

Our research seeks to have a positive impact on our community by challenging prejudice and inequity, and promoting a fairer and more just society. This is an ethos that informs everything we do.

In 2020 we launched the Institute for Social Justice, which works across the university to facilitate social justice research, projects and partnerships that address some of the inequalities and challenges facing society today.
