Government funding

Postgraduate Master's Loan
A Postgraduate Master's Loan can help towards the cost of tuition fees and living costs while you study a master's degree.
Depending on where in the UK you live, how you apply for a loan will vary. Find out if you are eligible and the amount you could borrow on the websites below.

PGCE and School Direct (non-salaried)
The UK government offers bursaries and scholarships to students who want to study on a postgraduate teacher training course in England that leads to a qualified teacher status (QTS). Bursaries and scholarships are not available for every subject and you can check whether your subject qualifies by checking the Get into teaching website.
The amount you can get will depend on the undergraduate degree you hold and the subject your PGCE focuses on.
You cannot receive both a bursary and a scholarship and if you are eligible, you do not need to pay it back.
Postgraduate Doctoral Loan
Some funding bodies also offer a Postgraduate Doctoral Loan to help towards the cost of tuition fees and living costs whilst you study your doctoral degree.
Depending on where in the UK you live, how you apply will vary. Find out if you are eligible and the amount you could borrow on the websites below:
Please note: the Student Awards Agency Scotland and Student Finance Northern Ireland do not currently offer funding for PhD courses.
Funding for international students
As an international student, there are a number of ways to fund your studies, including funding from your home country.
We also have a range of scholarships for fee paying international students.
