Movement Science for Health and Performance (MOVE) Research Group

This research group is led by Dr Sean Hudson

The Movement Science for Health and Performance (MOVE) research group has a broad interest in understanding human movement across health and performance settings.

Our research spans three connected themes: 

  • Clinical populations: We investigate how movement is altered in clinical populations, including individuals with visual impairments, peripheral arterial disease, obesity, and limb amputations, to understand how movement is affected in these groups and how we can support them.
  • Occupational health and performance: We examine how protective equipment and load carriage affect movement, comfort, injury risk, and task performance in occupational settings, including police, military, and fire service.
  • Youth and sports performance: We study motor skills and movement ability in various athletic populations, including youth sport.

Across these themes we draw on a range of laboratory and field-based biomechanical techniques and principles to measure and interpret how people move.
