Course overview

On this course, you will develop an understanding of the complex nature of health policies. Learn how to strategise in the context of the international economy, while developing leadership skills and crises management skills. You will learn how to design for sustainable health at both organisation and national levels. Your learning will also cover healthcare communication and promotion tools within both public and private healthcare, including digital health innovations.

As evidence forms a crucial foundation for healthcare decisions, you will develop an understanding of both evaluating and conducting healthcare research. The course will cover global practices. You will analyse health systems and practices from a range of countries.

Our goal is for you to relate to and apply concepts in the UK, as well as other countries. Healthcare is an industry undergoing constant change and innovation. On this course, you will discover the methodologies that will inform your creation of new practices. Application of knowledge is key to future employment. Industry speakers from the NHS and international health systems will form a part of the course delivery.

If you choose the Professional Experience option, you will be assessed through the application of your knowledge and skill in a professional industry setting. The ideas and processes that you develop could change the global healthcare industry. This practical experience will prepare you for your future chosen career.

Compulsory module

On this module you will examine healthcare policy and strategy frameworks, analysing how they help the industry to function. You will also critique, compare and contrast the role and application of local, national, and global healthcare policies. Your primary focus will be assessing how successfully they provide standardization in daily operational activities. Using the knowledge learned on this module, you will create micro healthcare strategies to meet industry standards and needs.

Compulsory module

For a leader to make an informed decision, they need to be adept at synthesising and applying latest health research. The impact of these decisions will affect areas including:

  • Organisational strategy
  • Service delivery
  • Care pathways
  • Product development
  • Pharmacological innovation
  • Community care provision

You will be introduced to the foundations of evidence based healthcare research. The skills and knowledge of healthcare research will enable you to succeed throughout the course and your chosen career.

You will discover the tools to make critical decisions in healthcare leadership, crisis management and change implementation on both a national and global scale. Health care must be delivered increasingly by an interdependent network of organisations. You will critique individual leadership approaches and look at their impact on workplace relationships.

Technological innovations are transforming the structure, system, and overall approach to healthcare practices on a global scale. The digitalisation of healthcare practices has the potential to improve data capture and analytical capability within an organisation. On this module, you will be introduced to the basics of digital healthcare. The focus of your learning will be on future developments of media and predicted trends in technology. Your research will cover the ethical implications of industrial digitisation.

Compulsory module

You will learn about the concept of Design Thinking and how it can enhance healthcare efficiency. Design thinkers will first understand patients and their experiences, before coming up with solutions. You will investigate current healthcare systems and identify process gaps, whilst creating new designs for more effective processes. As part of this module, you will design a prototype community health initiative for a cause of your choice.

Compulsory module

The need for an innovative marketing campaign and global public relations strategy is fundamental for organisational growth and survival. You will build on marketing frameworks, exploring a range of techniques to maintain a competitive edge within the global Healthcare market. Learn about the impact of the free market on healthcare and how to adjust marketing strategy to follow global trends. After completing the module, you will know how to create a comprehensive marketing strategy. You will also learn how to use analytics programmes across multiple platforms and how to use existing metrics to generate industry benchmarks for success.

Compulsory module

This module runs for the duration of your course. You will reflect on your personal learning experience while designing an independent research project in healthcare management. Using academic and vocational resources, you will present your project at a level that meets industry standards. Your justifications and conclusions will be evidenced using resources and personally sourced data.

All of your modules will be delivered using a variety of different teaching sessions. This includes:

Each module has a Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), where you and other postgraduate students will benefit from online debate and collaborative approaches to learning. Your contact time for each 20 credit module will be 35 hours. For each 60 credit module, you will engage with 60 hours of contact time. You will be expected to supplement your learning with independent research.

We use a wide variety of assessment types, which help you to develop skills relevant to the workplace. You will be assessed on your developing digital literacy skills, quantitative data analysis and key competencies for a managerial working environment. These include:

You will receive feedback on your work throughout each module. This will help you to improve your work for your graded assessments. We will advise you on developing your skills, useful areas for research and how to extend your business knowledge further.

Professional Experience

You will be on placement for a full academic year, after you have successfully completed all of the taught modules.

  • £9,300 per year for the first year full time, and £1,395 for your professional experience year (£10,695 in total)
  • £5,150 per year part time, and £1,395 for your professional placement year (£10,695 in total)
