Placements
Placements are your chance to start building a professional network and apply what you have learnt. You will undertake placements every year. By the time you graduate you will have at least 110 hours of experience to include on your CV.
We will encourage you to find and apply for your own placements, but we will support you every step of the way. You can look through our database of placements to develop ideas about where you might want to apply to and we can give you any advice you need.
Weekly skills practice
When it comes to counselling and mental health, there are many active listening skills that can help you to build a therapeutic relationship built on unconditional acceptance, empathy and authenticity. We will help you develop these abilities and hold weekly sessions for you to practise them with your peers. We will cover topics such as:
- Working with silence, questions, reflections and paraphrasing
- Effective structuring and facilitation of a therapeutic relationship
- Understanding relational depth and advanced empathy
- Ethical issues and dilemmas
- Developing an integrative approach to practice
- Applying different counselling and mental health theories
Specialist spaces
You will have access to specialist training spaces for practising the skills we teach you. You will be encouraged to record your skills sessions to playback later. Doing this will allow you to reflect on your practice and highlight your strengths and weaknesses.
