Supporting students through feedback

Guidance on providing feedback to support students on placement at your organisation.

Feedback is an essential part of ensuring high-quality placement experiences for students, placement providers and the communities they serve.

York St John University is committed to working collaboratively with placement partners to continuously review, develop and enhance placement learning opportunities.

We encourage students and placement providers to share their experiences and reflections throughout and following each placement. Feedback helps us to:

  • Monitor the quality of placement experiences
  • Identify areas of good practice and innovation
  • Recognise and celebrate the contributions of placement providers and supervisors
  • Address any challenges or concerns in a timely manner
  • Inform ongoing improvements to placement processes and support

Student feedback

Students are invited to evaluate their placement experience and reflect on how the placement has contributed to their learning and professional development. Their feedback helps us understand what is working well and where additional support or development may be needed.

Placement provider feedback

We value the insights of placement providers and practice educators. Feedback from supervisors and organisations helps us ensure that placement requirements remain relevant, achievable and beneficial for both students and providers.

Providers are encouraged to share feedback on:

  • Placement preparation and communication
  • Student readiness and engagement
  • Support provided by the University
  • Placement processes and documentation
  • Opportunities for future partnership development
  • Working Together for continuous improvement

Quality placement learning is built on strong partnerships. We regularly review feedback and evaluation data to identify opportunities for enhancement and to ensure our placement experiences continue to meet the needs of students, providers, employers and the wider health and social care sector.

By working together, we can create meaningful placement experiences that support student learning, strengthen services and contribute to the development of a skilled and confident future workforce.

Raising concerns

If concerns arise during a placement, we encourage early communication between the student, placement supervisor and University team. Prompt discussion enables issues to be addressed constructively and helps ensure a positive and supportive learning environment for all involved.
