Gabriella Di Laccio

PhD researcher

I am a PhD researcher at York St John University exploring how performance activism, data-driven advocacy, and community-building can work together to drive systemic change in the global music industry. My research builds on my lived experience as a classical singer and founder of the Donne Foundation, a UK charity focused on advancing gender equality in music.

Through initiatives like the Equality and Diversity in Global Repertoire Report, the Anonymous Composer Concerts, and the Let HER MUSIC Play campaign, I will examine how creative practice and data transparency can influence institutions, engage audiences, and support inclusive policies.

This practice-based research aims to develop a model that artists, organisations, and educators can adapt to promote equity and representation. I’m particularly interested in how performance can challenge biases, how data can drive accountability, and how communities can sustain change. My goal is to contribute practical tools and strategies that help reshape the industry and expand opportunities for women in music.
