I have worked for the University since 2003 and am currently one of the Subject Directors for Counselling. I am Course Lead for the PG diploma in Counselling, which is a BACP accredited training course. Since 2012 I have been jointly involved in developing Person-Centred Experiential (formerly CfD) training for experienced counsellors.

I am on the BACP voluntary register and also an accredited counsellor, and a qualified supervisor. For many years I worked in the voluntary sector managing counselling services for a mental health charity. I have also worked in a large university counselling service providing counselling to students. I am a humanistic-integrative counsellor with a particular interest in embodied and relational ways of working. In 2015 I undertook the Level 1 Emotion Focused Therapy training. Currently I see clients in the CMHC located in the University.

Qualifications

PhD

Fellow Higher Education Academy

MA in Counselling (York St John University)

Diploma in Group and Individual Supervision (Cascade/ABC)

Graduate Diploma in Counselling (York St John University)

Certificate in Counselling (York St John University)

BA (Hons) Psychology (Open University)

I teach across a range of courses, undergraduate, postgraduate and Continuous Professional Development. I have been involved in curriculum development and re-validation of both undergraduate and postgraduate courses. I am one of the course leads for the PG Diploma in Counselling, and for the Person-Centred Experiential (CFD) CPD programme.

My PhD explored the impact of supervision on experienced counsellors, and utilised a narrative inquiry. The findings highlighted the importance of a particular type of relationship in supervision, and the interplay between this and professional and ethical issues.

With a colleague I am also involved in research with the University of Sheffield on the PRaCTICED trial. This RCT is comparing PCE therapy with Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.
