Your Assignment Toolkit

Your assignments are a key part of your journey with us as a student.

Whether you are starting your first ever assignment, or working on your last assignment, we have designed Your Assignment Toolkit to support you with your progress to completion.

This toolkit is for every student starting an assignment, whether you are a foundation or first year undergraduate, a returning second or third year student, or a postgraduate. It focuses on introducing and developing study foundations which means there will be new information and ideas, as well as things you already know.

Every student is different and has different educational backgrounds (such as UK and international, academic and vocational), so use this toolkit and take from it what is relevant and helpful to you.

Before using this toolkit, reflect and ask yourself: “What skills do I need to develop to be successful in this assignment?” Your reflection helps you to get started.

We have 5 sections:

5. Understanding and learning from your assignment feedback

If this is not the first assignment you have completed, or you have received some formative feedback on a module, we highly recommend starting with Part 5: Understanding and learning from your assignment feedback first before continuing with Part 1: Preparing for your assignment. Feedback from previous work is always the best starting point.

Your Assignment Toolkit focuses on assignments where you need to create something, for example an essay, a report, a reflection, a video, or a portfolio. For other assessment types such as exams, we have specific resources in our Study Skills guides to help.
