This course has really helped to prepare me for going into the ‘working world’. Most of my modules related to the reality of life in the business world. My lecturers had all previously worked in the industry which meant that we had some great links to industry. We would have guest talks and links for work experience placements. For example, my Tax lecturer was able to set up 3 days work experience for me and 2 others at BHP (a local chartered accountants office). It’s made the idea of getting a graduate job a little less daunting!

My time at York St John University has been amazing. I am an International student so at first I thought I would not be able to adjust to the different culture here, but when I came to this university my thoughts completely changed and I really started enjoying my time here. The way of teaching was really different and fascinated me. Everyone at the University is very friendly, including the lecturers, so I have never hesitated or felt scared to talk to them, and York itself is such a student friendly city. I've never felt under pressure because everything is so well planned, with plenty of time given to prepare for the assignments and understand them properly.

The course gives you a brilliant overview of all the different elements of fashion marketing, which allows you to decide what area you want to pursue after graduation.​ It provided me with the opportunity to meet and speak with people in the industry and build a network.

The course is very practical and gives a real insight into the world of events through the module design. I have really enjoyed some of the more academic modules too and can see how they can be applied into the world of work. It has really opened my eyes to what I am capable of doing. Many of our projects are based on real life situations and include the support from local businesses. York St John has some amazing connections within the wider community and encourages using those connections for further networking.With each module you can see how this is setting the foundations for careers in the business world. Whether this is thinking about the qualities of a good manager, how businesses need to operate ethically or marketing, there are many elements for those wanting a future in business or their own business.

I learnt basically everything there is to know about accounting: how to balance my time; how to prioritise things such as exam preparation; a lot about the world of business. We did a lot of case study sessions which really helped me understand things in perspective. My placement year massively helped me prepare for the working world and understand what to expect when starting my career properly.

The best thing about studying marketing has got to be the wide variety of topics you get to learn about. From creative and social media marketing to finance and data analytics, the course covers a wide range of business disciplines. The level of detail we explore within each of our lectures will be incredibly valuable to our future careers and will give us an in-depth view of what is required in marketing roles. One topic in particular, Consumer Behaviour, was extremely interesting as we learnt of the different attitudes customers have and how we can cater to their needs. This module had psychological aspects to it which fascinated me.

The best thing about studying Economics is the passion which my lecturers have. I always feel enthused to participate in seminars and feel confident to speak up within lectures. Often my lecturers stop me in the corridor to ask how my day is. York St John makes me feel like an actual person instead of just a number. It’s my second home. The community is very friendly and makes you feel accepted no matter your background. Everyone stands out and has a place within the University without feeling like you are in the shadows.

Having the opportunity to be taught by lecturers that specialise in all different forms of marketing, it's great to learn about their history and how they got into the industry. Overall, the teaching is phenomenal and you really feel like you belong here. Giving students the opportunity to access industry level tools that some other universities may not have access to, you go into the details of your course and get preparation for what you may face in the future. The university provide tonnes of opportunities for apprenticeships and make it easy to find out with their emails.

My favourite part of studying economics is that I am able to apply what I am learning within my course to events going on in the world. This gives me a greater understanding of both national and international economies. I also find the content within this course very interesting and thought provoking.

The structure of the course is set out very well. The lecturers' combined knowledge on the course made my classes easy to understand as they were complementary to each other. Allowing students to openly debate the theory in class, to bounce ideas off of each other, made the classroom experience at York St John feel inclusive and comfortable. York St John has helped me to find a different perspective of life abroad. As I am from Australia, living in the UK for a semester gave me the opportunity to operate in a different social and climatic environment, ultimately improving my interpersonal communication skills. I made the best friends at YSJ and it's an experience I’ll never forget!

My favourite thing about my course is the way everything we study can be applied to situations in industry. The theories we learn during a lecture are applied to real examples in seminars and assignments through case studies. This means I know what I’m learning has value, and it helps me to understand the impact financial and economic decisions have.
