Cost of living support

How we are helping our students to manage the cost of living.

We've introduced a range of measures to ease financial pressures on our students and increase support throughout the academic year.

York St John Student Support Fund

The York St John Student Support Fund provides financial support to students experiencing unexpected financial difficulties.

We have increased investment in this Fund to make sure more students can receive financial support from the University.

YSJ Student Support Fund

Catering subsidy

We have increased the provision of low-cost catering on campus to reduce student living expenses.

Sports and society membership subsidy

Our Students' Union and Sport Union support over 60 different sports clubs and societies. To make sure that finances are not a barrier to participation in sport or extracurricular activities, we have introduced subsidies of 40% for both initial membership and membership renewal for all clubs and societies.

Our students tell us that joining clubs and societies is really important in helping them to settle in to York St John and we are keen to support this.

Professional memberships, fees and DBS checks

Many students need to pay fees for professional memberships and costs associated with voluntary work placements, such as DBS checks.

Over the next academic year, we will provide a budget to cover the cost of these fees.

Information on how to apply will be shared by relevant tutors or course leaders.
