Physical education can be a key component in the emotional wellbeing of pupils. This course will equip you with the tools and practical knowledge you will need to support your students emotional wellbeing through physical education. Upon completion of this course, you will be able to: recognise challenges to pupils' wellbeing and advocate for the role of physical education in promoting pupils' emotional wellbeing.

Who is this course for?
This course is designed for primary and secondary school teachers with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) involved in the teaching of physical education.
What will I learn?
This course is split into the following 4 units:
- Unit 1: You will gain an understanding of how physical education can impact the emotional and social wellbeing of school pupils.
- Unit 2: Learn how to implement an emotional and social wellbeing-based approach to physical education.
- Unit 3: Explore how to empower school pupils to take care of their own emotional and social wellbeing.
- Unit 4: Learn how to use physical education to influence the whole school to promote pupil's personal development through their key stage of education.
How will I learn?
The qualification is delivered virtually via Microsoft Teams and supported by the YSJLearn Moodle platform. This allows for assessments and feedback to be delivered electronically.

You will be able to promote the importance of supporting the mental and social wellbeing of pupils and the role of physical activity in this.
Course leader biographies
Simon Kumar
Simon Kumar is a lecturer and Programme Lead for (BA) Education Studies and (BA) Education SEN and Mental Health degrees. Simon has been a lecturer at York St John University since 2015, lecturing in Physical Education and Youth Sport, and more recently as a lecturer in Children, Young People and Education. He is also an experienced Sports Leader Tutor and Centre Manager.
Simon has a varied background which includes serving in the British Armed Forces and working in areas such as the fitness industry, disability sports development, and for the ECB as a coach developer. He is also a qualified primary teacher with experience of physical education teaching and school consultancy.
