Primary School Physical Education Subject Leadership Level 6 Award

Who is this course for?

This course is for education professionals who have already completed the Level 5 award. 

What will I learn?

Teaching will build on topics covered in the Level 5 Certificate in Primary School Physical Education Specialism. During this 2 day course you will build on your understanding of what it means to lead sustainable development within primary school education.

How will I learn?

You will complete 18 guided learning hours with a tutor and 38 independent learning hours, including the completion of individual learning tasks. This degree level qualification has a minimum teaching hours requirement, so you will need to attend all study sessions in addition to completing tasks in between these sessions.

This course will be delivered online via Microsoft Teams. YSJ Learn, our virtual learning CPD platform, will be used for assessment submission and teaching. There will be an opportunity to book online tutorials if you require more support with the course material or assessment task.

Assessment

Course assessment will be a mixture of formal written assignments, group-based tasks and group discussion. During the course, you will also be required to arrange 2 meetings with a senior leader within your own school to discuss your subject leadership of physical education.

Dr Simon Kumar

Dr Simon Kumar is a lecturer and course lead on the Education Studies BA (Hons) and Education SEN and Mental Health BA (Hons) degrees. Simon has been a lecturer at York St John University since 2015, lecturing in Physical Education and Youth Sport, and more recently as a lecturer in Children, Young People and Education. He is also an experienced Leadership Skills Foundation and Centre Manager.

Simon has a varied background which includes serving in the British Armed Forces and working in areas such as the fitness industry, disability sports development, and for the English Cricket Board as a coach developer.  He is also a qualified primary teacher with experience of physical education teaching and school consultancy. 

To be eligible to undertake the Level 6 Award, you must:

• Be a primary school teacher with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
• Have successfully completed the Level 5 Certificate in Primary School Physical Education Specialism (Leadership Skills Foundation), either at York St John University or elsewhere

If you are a secondary school teacher you can only complete the Level 6 award if you have successfully completed the Level 5 Certificate in Primary School Physical Education Specialism (Leadership Skills Foundation). You must also be seconded to work within a primary school, as the primary lead, to enable you to gain the practical experience needed as evidence for this Level 6 qualification.
