My main focus as an International Programmes Tutor is ensuring and maintaining student engagement and retention. This is achieved through embedded academic English support, one to one tutorials and projects that raise awareness of international students and their barriers to learning in the UK. I am an experienced ESOL and EAP tutor, with a background in employability skills and in academia and have worked in corporate environments, local council and in higher education institutions.
I am passionate about community and inclusion and have worked closely with charities such as Refugee Action York to support asylum seekers and refugees with language and acculturation whilst in York.
Currently, my projects include an online ESOL course designed to acculturate new students to UK and York culture and an employability module aimed at international graduates. I also co coordinate SELTS, Global's in house English language test, and RAIS, a project aimed at raising awareness of international students, their needs, wants and cultural differences at York St John University.
