I completed a Master’s degree in Health Psychology at the University of Nottingham before training to become a secondary school teacher. I have worked in secondary education for over seventeen years, specialising in Religious Education, alongside leading Citizenship and PSHE. What first attracted me to RE was the opportunity it gives pupils to explore different beliefs, values and worldviews, engage with different perspectives and recognise that there is not always one right answer.
For seven years, I worked as an ITT Coordinator, supporting postgraduate student teachers, school-based mentors and university partners throughout school placements. Supporting student teachers has been one of the most rewarding aspects of my career. I designed and delivered Professional Studies sessions on areas including behaviour, adaptive teaching, literacy, effective feedback, wellbeing and workload, and supported Early Career Teachers as they began the next stage of their careers.
I joined York St John University as a Senior Lecturer in Initial Teacher Education, bringing together my experience of Religious Education and teacher development. I enjoy helping student teachers connect educational theory with classroom practice. My aim is to support them in becoming knowledgeable, reflective and confident teachers.
