I have been a university teacher since 2006, working at the University of East Anglia and University of Sheffield as PGCE secondary lead mathematics tutor. I have contributed to PGCE secondary courses at St Mary’s, University of Cambridge and University of Manchester. Prior to my career in higher education, I was a secondary school teacher for 10 years in multicultural and inner-city schools in Norwich and Bristol, including as Head of mathematics.

I am co-author of the book chapter ‘Learning to teach mathematics in a multicultural society’ in the book 'Mentoring Mathematics Teachers' written with an experienced secondary school mathematics teacher and mentor to student teachers.

In July 2020, I presented at an online conference on 'Health and Well-being' for school-based Mentors and Professional tutors.

I am passionate about mathematics education and enjoy sharing ideas with student teachers, on how to instill a love of the subject through cross- and extra-curricular activities. These have include creative links such as the mathematics art task, poetry, and photo task. I teach on the following programmes:

  • PGCE Primary: Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (PSHE).
  • PGCE Secondary mathematics; Numeracy across the curriculum; Inclusion and diversity; reconstructing the curriculum.
  • BA Primary Education: Year 1 Professional and Academic Skills; Year 2 mathematics; Year 2 Becoming a Professional teacher - EAL; Year 3 Professional Studies; Module lead for QTS6004M Research Informed Professional 2.

My research interests include exploring social justice themes in relation to critical mathematics education, anti-racism, diversity, inclusion and climate change. Primary and secondary student teachers work collaboratively to plan lesson activities on these topics for their pupils in placement schools.
