I completed my undergraduate PE and Youth Sports degree at York St John University, graduating with first class honours. From there, I did an MSc by Research at York St John, focusing on the sociology of sport and more specifically, the transition of youth academy footballers from school into the academy environment. I am now almost at the completion stage of my PhD here at York St John, once again focusing on professional football and how players navigate the journey into retirement.

Whilst undertaking my MSc by Research and PhD, I have been a research assistant and visiting lecturer at York St John and have since worked at Loughborough College as a Lecturer in the Sociology of Sport. In my spare time, I am an avid follower of many sports, particularly football and motorsports, such as the Moto GP and British Superbike Championships. I am delighted to now be here at York St John as a Lecturer in Social Sciences.

My teaching is varied for each module and takes both lecture, seminar and practical formats. I enjoy student debates and sport practicals, where students get the opportunity to put their theories into practice.

I have a varied research interest, however, professional football is my current focus and how players navigate the transition from the game into retirement. I have also completed research projects with Goalball UK on the social value of the sport and UniConnect on the provision of youth centres in the North of England.

I am a member of the TWiST (Tackling Welfare in Sport Together) research group at York St John and I am actively writing research studies for publication. My PhD is due for completion this summer.
