Staff Profile
Dr Claire Wright
Senior Lecturer
I have not taken the typical route to becoming a university lecturer. I was a mature student with a family when I began my degree followed my PhD. Prior to returning to education I had a diverse career which I returned to following completion of my studies. I joined York St John as a lecturer in 2018 and have used the skills I gained in my previous employment extensively in my role now.
I have over 20 years of working cross-sector between academia (and the compulsory education sector / NHS / industry and this experience has been beneficial for my role on a Biomedical Science degree. My research area is reflective of my cross-sector background and I am involved in research of the microbiome of the hospital built environment.
Alongside my role as lecturer (microbiology) I am the placement coordinator and the admissions tutor for the department.
