Louise Whitfield

Qualifications: BA (Hons) History, PGCE, PCAP, SFHEA

I have taught in primary schools across three different local authorities, holding roles including Early Years Leader and SEN Governor. I have also been subject leader for History and Art. I have worked in a number of different contexts from a small village school to a large primary school with attached nursery and resourced provision. I gained my MLDP (Middle Leadership) qualification whilst working in West Sussex, focusing on a project to raise boys' writing levels in schools. 

I began working as a Lecturer in Primary Education at York St John University in September 2015. I have successfully completed my Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice and Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Since September 2016, I have been NQT Lead, ensuring that the transition between being a trainee to a qualified teacher runs smoothly. I teach across all year groups on the undergraduate Primary Education programme. I am also an Academic Tutor and Link Tutor. In 2019 I was awarded Senior Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy.

Teaching

I am Module Director for Children's Learning in the EYFS and Professional Studies 2: Becoming a Teacher. I also teach on the Early Years Professional Elective and PSHE within the Wider Curriculum modules.

Research

I have recently completed my doctorate entitled, 'A Rollercoaster of Challenges and Rewards: How Primary Early Career Teachers (ECTs) in England navigate and manage their professional identity against the current educational policy context'.
