Teaching
I teach on the undergraduate business programmes in York Business School. I am teaching on the modules The dynamics of sports marketing. This module provides a solid foundation for the study of sports marketing. It explores the uniqueness of ‘sport’ marketing and through and applied approach it explores the key concepts, ideas, principles and techniques of sport marketing. I also teach on The global football industry module which explores underpinning concepts within the football business industry. The module develops an appreciation of the interdisciplinary nature of the football business and seeks to explore this across the football industry pyramid. Students will explore the role and influences of major stakeholders, governance, similarities and differences in football across the globe, will trace the global expansion of the sport and discuss how the sport has developed this global presence.
Finally, I also lecture on the Managing football facilities and venues module. This focusses on the management of consumer orientated sports and football organisations is heavily reliant on the service and quality of delivery to each consumer. Students will examine the concepts of operational management from a football/ sports business perspective and will analyse key concepts in relation to the operational issues faced by managers of sporting facilities. It will introduce students to concepts of operations management, project management, service delivery and quality that modern sports facility/business managers are required to implement in order to create and maintain high levels of customer satisfaction. The module examines safety issues and why stadium or facility managers need to maximise sources of income from a range of small and large scale events including sporting, retail, hospitality, conferencing and banqueting.
