Staff Profile

Paul Burdon

Lecturer, Speech and Language Therapy

I qualified as a Speech and Language Therapist from City University London in 2010.

Following this I have worked as a Speech and Language Therapist across adult services for Autistic Adults, Learning Disabilities and Mental Health Conditions. This experience has included working into a number of forensic settings including Rampton High Secure Hospital. I have developed new Speech and Language Therapy services within a number of forensic in-patient units and within the newly developed Specialist Support Team which aims to support the delivery of transforming care. This experience has allowed me to highlight the role of Speech and Language Therapy in supporting the understanding of perceived forensic risk though the assessment and awareness of social cognitive differences.

My research interests are in social communication difference and how Neuro-affirmative practice can reduce potential communication breakdown and the misattribution of 'risk'.
