Staff Profile

Rachael Wheeldon

Lecturer in Adult Nursing

Rachael Wheeldon

I am a Lecturer in Adult Nursing with a clinical background in community nursing, as well as experience in acute stroke and stroke rehabilitation and elderly nursing. My academic and professional journey reflects a deep commitment to person-centred care, ethical practice, and the education of future nurses.

I have held lecturing positions at the University of Bradford and currently at York St John University, where I contribute to the BSc (Hons) Adult and Mental Health Nursing programmes. I lead modules in both the first and third years of the programme and also serve as Placement Lead, supporting students in applying theory to real-world clinical practice.

Alongside my academic role, I continue to practice as a registered nurse, maintaining a strong connection to current clinical environments. I have also worked as a research nurse, further enriching my evidence-based approach to teaching and patient care. My academic interests include healthcare ethics, and I hold a Master’s degree in Biomedical and Healthcare Ethics. This underpins my teaching and informs my commitment to nurturing ethically aware, reflective practitioners.
