Richard Crawshaw

PhD Researcher

I am a graduate of The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama where I studied classical guitar under John Mills and composition with Tim Raymond. I was awarded the Performers' Licentiate Diploma in 1999.

I trained to become a secondary school music teacher by embarking on a PGCE in secondary music education in 2002 at York St John University and I qualified with QTS in 2004.

I began studying for an MA in Music Composition at York St John University in 2018 and I was awarded a 'distinction' in 2020.

Presently, I am a PhD student at York St John University where my current composition project is being supervised by Dr. David Lancaster.

Research

I am researching how music can reflect and interpret the physical, emotional and cultural features and aspects of landscape. How the many musical parameters can be linked to a narrative, events, descriptions, emotions, characters or anything that is perceptible to the senses of sight, sound or imagination.
