Sarah Triner

Lecturer

Sarah Triner

After completing my Primary PGCE at the University of Cambridge, I spent the next 13 years teaching in large, inner-city primary schools in both London and Leeds. Whilst teaching in London, I studied part-time for a MEd in Research in Practice where I used a Photovoice project in a girls' group I had established to explore the pupils' experiences of gender through their own eyes and in their own words.

As a teacher, I have been subject lead for PSHE and then Science, before becoming Assistant Headteacher. My experience of working in an area of extreme social deprivation, supporting vulnerable pupils and their families, has equipped me with a real passion for inclusive education.

Throughout my career, I have mentored and supported student teachers, ECTs and more experienced teachers to examine and refine their practice. My love of developing expert teachers led me to join the York St John University Primary ITE team in January 2026.
