Staff Profile

Scott Warren

Senior Lecturer

I graduated from the University of Sheffield in 2001 as a Registered Nurse in the Adult field of practice. I have worked clinically across South, West and North Yorkshire NHS organisations in Clinical, Research & Development, and Leadership posts.

In 2009 I studied for an MSc in Advanced Professional Practice, including Non-Medical Prescribing, and took a post as an Advanced Clinical Practitioner in the NHS, moving to work in York in 2013, where I worked in Acute, Emergency and Frailty services until 2018.

As part of my role in Service development I began to work in education, alongside clinical work from 2014, and completed a PGCE in Healthcare Education. I have been involved in teaching undergraduate and postgraduate healthcare staff including Nurses, AHPs, Medical staff and Pharmacists across the region since 2014.

I was delighted to join York St John University as a Senior Lecturer and Nursing Simulation Lead in 2022 to teach on the pre-registration nursing programmes, and continue to develop the Clinical Simulation Unit to provide excellent education experiences.

Teaching

I teach predominantly within the Integrative Nursing Science and Skills Stream, Nursing practice and Health & Wellbeing streams, with a particular interest in simulated learning experiences.

I aim to deliver a range of innovative learning experiences, increasing in complexity across the programme to enable students to learn in a supported environment and to ultimately be able to deliver high quality, evidence based and holistic care in clinical practice.

Research

My research interests include simulated learning in healthcare education, human factors and patient safety. I also have a keen interest in frailty and deconditioning in acute care and community settings.
