Staff Profile

Sian Highwood

PhD Researcher

I am a fine artist with particular interest in using textiles. I am working on a PhD that looks at the subject of parental suicide and the long term effects of those that have experienced it, with my supervisors Dr Christina Kolaiti, Professor Vanessa Corby and Dr Charlotte Cullen.

I received a MA in Textiles from the University of the Creative Arts and my earlier BSc (Hons), Textile Design & Design Management, from UMIST (University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology).

Teaching

Currently I am working with the first year fine art undergraduates leading seminar sessions. I teach on:

  • Art 4018M Context: Making Art & Artists (Undergraduate seminar sessions only)

Research

My research is practice based involving the making and installation of art works to examine the experience of parental suicide. This takes place along side academic research in the areas of parental suicide, materials and making for research, artists and trauma and participants experiences.
