Community Research in Practice: Bridging Curious and Creative Communities

Wednesday 5 November 2025

Creative Centre 101, York St John University campus

Hybrid event

How the event is organised

The event is organised as a conference style. Panels of speakers will deliver presentations. Each talk is 5 to 7 minutes long. We have asked speakers to share learnings, challenges or provocations with the aim to invite the audience to reflect and share ideas based on your experiences.

The event's discussions will be chaired by Institute for Social Justice (ISJ) staff.

At the end of each panel, there will be time for an open discussion between speakers and audience. We will invite the audience to share their own ideas by using post-its or digitally via the online platform Mentimeter (scanning QR code). If you are attending online, there will be a moderator via Teams Microsoft chat. You can contribute to the wider discussion via the moderator or you could also join Mentimeter.

Through everyone's contributions the ISJ will draft a manifesto of good research practice between academics and VCSE partners. The manifesto will be a live document. The ISJ will invite future Community Research Grants projects to add to it in the future.

Room 101 in Creative Centre, showing rows of long desks

What the room looks like

The room is a lecture room with fixed desks. It has lighting that can be set to different levels. It has a big screen at the front of the room with audio visual equipment. Although the desks are fixed, you will be able to choose where to sit, with freedom to move around at any time. Toilets are located almost opposite the lecture room and there are stairs and a lift to reach the room located on the first floor of the Creative Centre.

This is a hybrid event so you can join us in person or online. Please join in the way that works best for you.

Travelling to York

If you are travelling by train, York St John University campus is located a 15 minute walk from the station. Buses 1 and 5 drop you off opposite campus and the journey time is around 16 minutes without traffic. There is also a taxi rank at the front of the station on Station Road.
