Membership

We welcome members of the public who wish to have access to York St John Library resources.

The information below tells you how to apply and details the benefits of membership.

Applying for membership

You will need to visit us in person at the Information Services desk on the Ground Floor of the Library.

Unfortunately we cannot offer library membership to persons under the age of 18.

Please make sure you bring the following:

• Proof of identity (for example, passport or driving licence)
• Proof of address (for example, utility bill)
• Membership fee

You will also need a current email address in order to receive notifications about your library account.

*Please note that Alumni Library membership is distinct from membership of the University’s Alumni Society.

Using the library

Registered Alumni and members of the public can borrow up to 10 items at any one time. All loanable and eligible items are available for an initial 2 week period. See our borrowing details for further information.

Please take particular care to note an item's due date of return around University vacations and closure dates, as this may affect the usual loan period.

External borrowers and alumni are not able to print on demand on campus. Printing can be provided by Print Services by emailing a document to printservices@yorksj.ac.uk. There is a minimum £2 printing spend. We aim to complete printing within 1 business day.

Fines

Fines are payable for items returned late. You can continue to borrow if your fines remain below £10. However, fines of £10 or above will prevent borrowing.

Fines are charged at £1.00 per day for books. Emails are sent out before due dates are reached to remind you when items are due for return.
