STEWdent and Song
4.00 PM to 7.00 PM
Fri 9 October, 2026
The YSJ Living Lab is collaborating with York Together and Singing Resistance York to bring you a feast for your ears, voice, belly and mind.
Join us on Friday 9 October at 4-7pm for the first STEWdent and Song event, as part of the York Environment Festival 2026.
What is STEWdent and Song all about?
Singing Resistance York will facilitate a workshop to learn simple, beautiful, powerful songs of climate resilience.
You will then be fed a delicious, vegan stew and have an opportunity to chat with the like-minded people who care deeply about climate resilience.
York Together will then bring their lively, participatory STEW model of grassroots funding to the Living Lab's Friendly Living Fund.
Students leading community climate projects will each have just 4 minutes to pitch how they would like to take their projects forward - whether this is to grow what they are already doing, explore different ways of working or simply carrying on doing more of the good things that they are already doing.
The audience will then vote on which project they think will benefit young people and the climate the most!
Why come along?
The climate crisis has never been more visible and it can feel overwhelming at how little is being done to address its impacts and causes.
STEWdent and Song provides a space for people to come together in solidarity and hope. To not only sing, eat and talk together, but also hear young people's vision for climate justice.
How ticketing works
Attending STEWdent and Song is donate-as-you-can, and you can purchase your ticket on Eventbrite.
If you are on a low income or a student, it is fine to pay as little as £0 and contribute instead with your presence and enthusiasm! For those that can afford it, our suggested minimum donation is £12.
What we will do with donations from tickets
100% of the donations will support Friendly Living Fund projects, with a proportion going to the three projects being pitched on the evening and the remainder going to future Friendly Living Fund student-led projects.
Further event information can be found in the FAQs on the event booking page.
