Why choose the School of Humanities
The School of Humanities offers endless opportunities to learn and study a range of subjects at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, with a real focus on the student journey. Courses benefit and are inspired by being based in York, a city steeped in culture, history, and geographical significance.
The School prides itself on providing a friendly and inclusive environment where students can learn, develop, and feel a real sense of community. Academic members of staff are approachable and supportive, and encourage students to discuss and explore their ideas during their degree experience.
As part of studying within the School of Humanities, our students are able to take advantage of some fantastic learning opportunities such as guest speakers, trips, special festivals, industry placements, School events, and writing retreats, as well as the potential to work with local and national companies, charities and local government departments. We are proud co-sponsors of the York Literature Festival, the Aesthetica Short Film Festival, and the York International Shakespeare Festival, all of which our students are involved with and can attend for free as part of their degree.
