Academic in The School of The Arts, Performance DepartmentTechnical Demonstrator in Moving Image and Lighting Design

School of the Arts

Based in the Performance Department, I teach Acting and Musical Theatre, focussing on Screen-based and Multimedia Performance.

My research concerns multimedia performance, developing (auto)ethnographic praxes to examine critical relationships between theatre and the occult, conspiracy theory culture, and gothic storytelling on stage and screen.

In addition to this role, I work as a Technical Demonstrator in Moving Image and Lighting Design, specialising in videography, projection and lighting for Contemporary Theatre, Drama and Dance.

Outside the university I am also a professional artist, director and writer, producing commercial works.

I hold a BA and MA from York St John, and a PhD in Theatre, Film and Interactive Media from The University of York.

As an Academic, I regularly teach on the following courses:

  • Ensemble Political Performance
  • Acting For Screen
  • Dissertation
  • Independent Project
  • Companies and Commissions

And as a Technical Demonstrator, I also teach across all Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses in the Perfromance Department, School of The Arts.

My research is generally produced and distrubuted as Practice Research, mainly prersented as live performances. I am currently moving into more written research areas though, working on an article for Gothic Studies (2026), and a book series related to Bloomsbury (2026 onwards).

I am a member of the Interdisciplinary Witches Research Group, based at York St John University.

As an artist, I have also devised, produced and toured performances and installations to theatres, galleries and festivals in the UK, Europe and Australia, and am a cofounder and Creative Director of York-based multimedia performance company The Good Room.
