I received my PhD in Clinical Sciences and Immunology at the University of Cape Town in South Africa, followed by additional training in public health and clinical epidemiology. Before accepting my appointment at YSJ, I worked for more than 14 years in various roles, including as a postdoctoral researcher, research manager, and academic researcher with a focus on infectious diseases, mainly Tuberculosis (TB) and HIV, in a developing country setting. Additionally, I worked briefly in the pharmaceutical industry as a professional scientific writer before returning to academic research.

In my current role, I combine my varied professional experience and skills with a passion for research to inform my approach to teaching.
I teach various modules across the three-year programme and am a module leader for:

  1. Molecular and Cellular Biology 1
  2. Professional Skills for Biomedical Sciences 2

My current research focuses on understanding the immunopathogenesis and diagnosis of sepsis. I am also interested in the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in improving the diagnosis of sepsis and other infectious diseases to enhance clinical decision-making.

I welcome enquiries from prospective postgraduate students.
