I graduated from the University of Sheffield in 2001 as a Registered Nurse in the Adult field of practice. I have worked clinically across South, West and North Yorkshire NHS organisations in Clinical, Research & Development, and Leadership posts.

In 2009 I studied for an MSc in Advanced Professional Practice, including Non-Medical Prescribing, and took a post as an Advanced Clinical Practitioner in the NHS, moving to work in York in 2013, where I worked in Acute, Emergency and Frailty services until 2018.

As part of my role in Service development, I began to work in education, alongside clinical work in 2014, and completed a PGCE in Healthcare Education. I have been involved in teaching undergraduate and postgraduate healthcare staff including Nurses, AHPs, Medical staff and Pharmacists across the region since 2014.

I was delighted to join York St John University as a Senior Lecturer and Nursing Simulation Lead in 2022 to teach on the pre-registration nursing programmes, I took on the role of Professional Course Lead in in 2023 and I am pleased and proud to work with the nursing faculty and wider school teams to deliver pre-registration nursing education and post graduate research supervision

I teach predominantly within the Integrative Nursing Science and Skills Stream, Nursing Practice, Research and Health and Wellbeing streams, with a particular interest in simulated learning experiences, patient-safety and Human Factors
I aim to deliver a range of innovative learning experiences, increasing in complexity across the programme to enable students to learn in a supported environment and ultimately be able to deliver high quality, evidence based and holistic care in clinical practice.

I am also a post-graduate research supervisor.

I teach on the following programmes

  • BSc (Hons) - Adult Nursing
  • BSc (Hons) - Mental Health Nursing
  • MRes in Science and Health

My research interests include simulated learning in healthcare education, clinical competence, and proficiency
with further interests in human factors and patient safety.

I also have a keen interest in frailty and deconditioning in acute care and community settings.
