Lecturer in Speech and Language Therapy

Shona Corker

I qualified as a Speech and Language Therapist from Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh in 2009. Following this, I have worked as a Speech and Language Therapist across Yorkshire and London in the NHS, The Portland Hospital and The Harley Street Clinic. I have been fortunate to work in a range of paediatric clinical settings, from neonatal hospital wards to special schools and CAMHS. I have established new services such as neurodevelopmental assessment clinics, and was the first Speech and Language Therapist in the UK to provide SLT support for both blood and solid tumour cancer related needs in children. I am a committee member for the RCSLT Neurodevelopmental Diagnostics CEN. I have been successful in achieving funding from the NIHR, RCSLT and a scholarship from the University of York. My research interests are in autism and neurodevelopmental conditions, with particular interest in less recognised conditions such as Post-Operative Paediatric Cerebellar Mutism Syndrome (Pop-CMS), Alexithymia and Aphantasia.
