Simon Pattison
Course Lead of Product Design and Senior Lecturer
Simon gained a BA (Hons) in Design and an MA in Ceramic Design for Production from Staffordshire University before beginning his career as a shape designer for Denby Pottery where he was responsible for some of their most successful and enduring tableware ranges.
Having undertaken freelance projects for major ceramics firms including Spode, Portmeirion, Royal Worcester and Wedgwood Simon embarked on a mission to broaden his design experiences. Having gained sponsorship from Birmingham Assay office. In 2008 he undertook a second MA in a design discipline, a Masters in Jewellery, Silversmithing and Related Products at Birmingham City University for which he gained a distinction. In recognition for his outstanding final show, The Importance of Being Elegant, he was featured as an MA star on the Axis website.
Within his own practice, Simon creates bold, playful and imaginative objects for the home. He has a passion for exploring the possibilities of the table top and for making unexpectedly functional items. He has exhibited at Masion Objet in Paris, Tent London along with Goldsmiths’ Fair, being a member of The Goldsmiths’ Company. Having undertaken commissions for the Royal family Simon continues to work with a broad range of clients including Paul Smith and WMF.
