Working within the Student Recruitment and Widening Participation team, Student Ambassadors are the face of York St John University. We believe the best people to share their experiences of York St John are current students. An Ambassador's role is to showcase all that York St John has to offer to prospective students and visitors to the University.
Shifts are varied and there are frequent opportunities to work for other departments across the University, such as Marketing, Student Support and Admissions. Work you might complete includes:
- Delivering campus tours
- Supporting large-scale campus events such as Open Days
- Supporting school visits on campus with learners from year 6 to post 16
- Residential summer schools
- Supporting outreach events for underrepresented groups such as mature learners and care experienced pupils
- Mentoring
- Administrative work

Applications for Student Ambassadors usually open in September each academic year. Details are shared on this page when the vacancy is live.

How the job works
The Student Ambassador role is flexible and should fit around your studies. You sign up to shifts that you can work. There are always a number of shifts available.
Student Ambassadors earn £15.07 per hour, including the hourly holiday pay. A uniform is provided.

Becoming a Student Ambassador was a fantastic opportunity for me. Not only has it given me the chance to earn while I study, I have also been able to be part of a fantastic team of students and staff who want to work to achieve the same goal: to share our passion for YSJ. Being an Ambassador is a perfect student job as it is completely flexible to fit around my studies. I really enjoy the range of opportunities the job has to offer, such as visiting local schools, leading campus tours and filming for online Open Day events. I’d definitely recommend becoming an Ambassador as my confidence in public speaking has massively improved, I have met so many amazing people and I am proud that I am able to represent my university.

I have seen other universities and I see what YSJ offers. For me, the benefits of being here are clear and I like to advocate why they might be important to potential students (and sometimes the parents too). As a Student Ambassador I can talk about my experiences, work with friends in a comfortable setting, and have some fun at the same time. The added benefit is I can fit work around my studies. If things get too hectic with assignments, I commit to working only when I am able to, unlike an ordinary part time role.

I originally applied to be a Student Ambassador because I remembered the Student Ambassadors that I spoke to on my own Open Day and subsequent interview day; they were all very open and willing to answer all the questions I had, even (looking back) the silly ones. I love that by being a Student Ambassador I am able to help prospective students on the Open Days to decide if York St John is the university for them. We help new students settle in and ease their nerves on Arrivals Weekend, and even younger students decide if university is the path for them in secondary school on visits. Overall being a Student Ambassador for me is about passing on my enjoyment for being at YSJ on to future students.
