Calm and Connect Week

Our first Calm and Connect Week starts next Monday, 20 April, with activities across campus to help you reset, meet people and support your wellbeing. From clothes swaps and crafts to mindfulness, games and more, there’s plenty to get involved in.

Future You Festival

Join us for the first ever Future You Festival on Thursday 23 April. From employer fairs and networking to careers advice, creative panels and practical workshops, this is your opportunity to gain valuable guidance about your career. Meet graduate employers, get support with applications, and refresh your interview wardrobe for free. Browse the Future You Festival programme and book your place via Handshake.

Time for a Spring Clean?

We’re supporting the British Heart Foundation’s #PackForGood campaign. Help lifesaving research by donating your unwanted items to one of our drop-off locations: at St Anthony's House, The Grange, St John Central, Limes Court and City Residence.

Take on the Dragon Boat Challenge

Make the most of the summer and try something new. We’re looking for staff and students to join the Alumni and Fundraising team at the York Rotary Dragon Boat Challenge on Sunday 12 July. It’s a fun, active day out on the water, perfect for getting outdoors, meeting new people and doing something a little different. Each team member will aim to raise £200, helping fund scholarships that support YSJ students. Complete the expression of interest form and tell us why you’d love to take part.

More of a runner than a rower?

If you’d rather get your steps in, there’s still time to join our York 10K team on Sunday 2 August. Sign up for a discounted place (£15), raise at least £150 for student scholarships, and get support with your fundraising along the way.

Postgraduate students

Every year, we reach out to understand what life at YSJ looks like for you. This week we invited all postgraduate students to take part in either the Postgraduate Teaching Experience Survey (PTES) or the Postgraduate Research Experience Survey (PRES). By taking part in PTES or PRES, you’re directly shaping how we design teaching, supervision and support. As a thank you (and for a bit of fun) we’re running a spin the wheel prize draw throughout April. Once you’ve completed either survey, head over to Fountains ground floor with your Student ID card. We’ll be located next to the main desk from 10.00am to 3.00pm, on 23, 24, 29 and 30 April.

Undergraduate students

There’s still time to share what matters most to you in the YSJ Experience Survey (YES) or National Student Survey (NSS). The YES and NSS close on Thursday 30 April. Once you’ve completed the YSJ Experience Survey (YES) or National Student Survey (NSS) don’t forget to claim your free portable speaker at the Student Hub desk with your student ID (while stock lasts).

Student Finance applications for 2026/27 are now open

If you’re an undergraduate student, you’ll need to reapply each year through your online student finance account. Log in via your relevant funding body (EnglandWales or Northern Ireland) to get started and make sure your funding is in place for next year.

Working in the UK after your studies

Student visa holders can work full-time once they’ve completed their course up until their visa expires. You may be able to stay in the UK longer through the Graduate visa or Skilled Worker visa routes. There is no need to contact the Visa and Compliance team, as they will automatically notify UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) if you’re eligible for the Graduate visa, and email you before your student visa expires to confirm this. Read the guidance on Working in the UK before agreeing to or making any changes to your working arrangements.
