Geography and Environmental Studies Research Group

The Geography and Environmental Studies research group encompasses natural sciences, social sciences and humanities perspectives on themes of environment, space, place, landscape and human/nature relations.

Themes of interest include:

• Sustainability and climate change mitigation, adaptation and resilience.
• Water and flood management.
• Cultural policy, urban planning and place-making.
• Animal geographies.
• Disability geographies.
• Ecosystem service provisioning and delivery.
• Environmental chemistry.
• Knowledge production and science communication.
• Ecology and nature conservation.
• Peatland science.
• Interdisciplinary methodologies, integrating qualitative and quantitative (including geospatial) approaches.

Much of our research directly aligns with the University’s emphasis on social justice, prioritising community engagement, diversity and inclusivity in varied contexts, from everyday public spaces to environmental management, to the academic disciplines of Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences.
