Parenthood and Creativity Research Group
The Parenthood and Creativity Research Group is led by Professor Abi Curtis.
The Parenthood and Creativity Research Group is interested in the relationship between practice based arts and humanities, the creative impulse and experiences of early parenthood, maternity and paternity.
Interests include:
- Parenthood and creative writing
- Parenthood and fine art practice
- Miscarriage and baby loss
- Pregnancy and fertility experiences
- Creativity in young children
We are a new group (as of 2022) and meet monthly to discuss ideas. We are aiming to develop both impact and external funding projects.

We welcome prospective PhD students and new members who are interested in the above areas, as well as any other aspects of parenthood and creativity.
We welcome new members from any discipline area and also welcome interdisciplinary approaches.
Research activity
Workshops
We are currently running workshops for new parents using creative writing techniques.
A workshop for the public is planned for the Being Human Festival 2022.
Artwork
Artwork used by The Miscarriage Association as part of their support materials.
Artwork on parenthood exhibited.
Publications
We are editing an anthology of commissioned writing about parenthood.
